20 Premiership Grounds, 1 Big Run
Ex-Southampton Football player Francis Benali is running over 1000 miles between 20 premiership football grounds in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Franny was born in Southampton, has been married for 22 years to his wife Karen and they have 2.4 kids (.4 being their black Labrador). Francis is a young at heart, mind and body 45 year old who played 389 games for Saints where he scored 1 goal. The former home grown Saints player is now enjoying a career in coaching, broadcasting and motivational speaking. With this amazing challenge it looks likely he will have plenty of material for his new career.
Franny has been the patron for local cancer charity for years, his mum has battled with cancer personally and his wife has lost her two Grandfathers to cancer. It is a horrific disease that doesn’t discriminate.
After the official press launch on 16th July 2014 at Saint Mary’s Franny complete lengthy training and PR work for the monstrous challenge that now enters its 16th day, with just 4 days remaining after today.
To date Franny has run over 700 miles, he has raised a massive £56,278.00, but the pain, fatigue and exhaustion are taking their toll, so he is looking forward to finishing this coming Saturday (13th September) where he will arrive at St. Mary’s for half time in the Southampton v Newcastle game.
