4Com Raise £33,303 for The Isabel Baker Foundation

4Com, the leading telecommunications provider to SMEs, have announced that they have raised £33,303 for The Isabel Baker Foundation after successfully completing their 4-25 (four-twenty-five) challenge.

The charity event, which took place on the 24th September, saw a team of 40 staff from 4Com trek 25 miles over the challenging Purbeck hills, with the group finishing in a little over 11 hours.

Dean Cartledge, 4Com’s Chief Operating Officer and Head of the 4Com Foundation which organises such fundraising events, paid tribute to his team, “It’s an incredible achievement from everyone involved. 25 miles is a challenge anywhere but doing it over undulating, uneven terrain, whilst climbing steep hills with hundreds of steps made the challenge even more daunting. The whole team picked each other up throughout the day, and although everyone was hurting by the end, knowing we’ve made a difference to children’s lives really does make it worth it.”

Every pound donated has been match-funded by The 4Com Foundation to achieve the £33,303 total. These vital funds will go towards The Isabel Baker Foundation’s Dry Suit Appeal which provides dry suits to children suffering from cancer; these poorly children will often have a Central Venous or Hickman Line fitted into their heart so medication can be given and bloods can be taken. However, this line cannot get wet. Dry suits allow children to enjoy basic activities like taking a bath or splashing in a paddling pool, whilst staying safe and not interrupting their treatment. Dry suits cost approximately £300 each. They are specially made for each child and The Isabel Baker Foundation is the only charity known to be providing these in the UK.

4Com’s CEO, Gary Scutt added, “We’re proud of the effort our team put in; completing the 4-25 challenge required a lot of training as this was a distance many participants hadn’t walked before. We’re also very grateful to our colleagues, friends, families, and suppliers who have donated so generously in order to help us exceed our £30,000 target. It’s going to make a huge difference to children suffering with cancer and to their families.”

Vicky Turner founded The Isabel Baker Foundation in 2015 in memory of her daughter, Isabel, who sadly passed away when she was just one year old following a brave battle with cancer. Vicky knows first-hand how important it is for families to have additional support during one of the most challenging times in their lives. She said, “£33,303 is a huge amount of money and it will enable us to provide 111 bespoke dry suits to children with cancer, helping not only them but their families. Giving a poorly child the option to have a bath or splash in the sea on a family trip, when they are going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment, is so important. It provides some relief to them and their families as they deal with this awful disease. We are so grateful for this donation as a result of 4Com staff taking on a really tough challenge.”

Since The 4Com Foundation was established in 2014, over £400,000 has been donated to both local and national charities. Charity work is a central theme at 4Com and it plays a large part in the company culture.
