4Com’s ‘drive’ to address work/life balance for their field engineers

>New Volkswagen Estates- 4Com EngineersBusiness Telecoms Company 4Com has just taken steps to reward its engineers by investing in 23 brand new Volkswagen Golf estates cars; replacing their VW Caddy vans. The move, popular with the telecom engineering staff, was the result of 4Com talking to engineers about their working conditions and looking at ways to improve the economy of the fleet vehicles that were being used.

4Com have recently been placed 16th in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For and the replacement of the vans to VW Golf estate cars adds even more kudos to the working conditions at the company. The company has also taken the decision to not brand the vehicles with 4Com logos, stating that it believes the engineers will benefit from better security of the equipment and a more personal approach when the car is used during the evenings and weekends.

“The majority of our engineers at 4Com have grown up with the company and we were looking at practical ways to reward them for all the hard work they undertake during their day to day job.”  Said Adam Sullivan, 4Com Maintenance Director, adding “Following a review into operating costs and looking at our company car policy, the company re-evaluated its existing engineer’s fleet and searched the market for a new vehicle which was both economical and had the latest driver safety devices on the market and included a large boot space to accommodate tools.”

The new 4Com fleet of VW Golf estates include Bluetooth, DAB digital radio with 5.8-inch colour touchscreen, iPod connector, seven airbags, XDS electronic differential and an automatic post-collision braking system.  These models also gain ADC automatic distance control with Front Assist and City Emergency Braking, 16-inch alloy wheels, rear map-reading lights, automatic lights and wipers, a Driver Alert System, driver profile selection, and a Pre-Crash preventive occupant protection system.

Daron Hutt, 4Com Chairman added, “We wanted to acquire vehicles which were reliable, of high quality, large enough to carry equipment and with competitive whole-life costs. But they also needed to be desirable to our drivers so they enjoy using them during their spare time.  The new Volkswagen Golf Estate is the perfect company car, combining excellent running costs, emissions, practicality and technology. Breeze Volkswagen is providing an excellent service and this is certainly contributing to an extremely smooth transition from the current vans.”

Neil Carlton, Corporate Department Business Development Manager at Breeze Volkswagen said, “Breeze Volkswagen is delighted the new Volkswagen Golf Estate has been selected by 4Com as its preferred fleet vehicle for its team of engineers to replace their vans.  This new car is the most spacious and fuel-efficient Volkswagen Golf Estate ever and fleet buyers and drivers have been impressed by the quality, safety and value of the car as well as the low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.”
