4Com staff cycle 1000km for charity

The staff here at 4Com set themselves a target of cycling 1000km in just 30 hours. The aim of this challenge was to raise £2,677 for Variety The Children’s Charity, to specifically help a local boy called Liam who earlier this year suffered a life-changing illness. (Related blog post).

Over 40 members of staff took part in the non-stop ride, each taking it in turn to cycle for 15 minutes, and smashed the 1000km challenge in an amazing 24hrs 23min. Having met their original target, they carried on for a further 3.5 hours after our Chairman and CEO offered to donate £5 for every kilometre cycled in the extra time period. Not only did the team beat the time target, but they also managed to beat their financial target. Monies are still being counted but the figure is well in excess of £4,000. 4Com and Variety are now delighted to be looking at how others can benefit from this amazing team effort.

Commenting after a long night of cycling, Dean Cartledge Group Operations Manager at 4Com:

“The event has been fantastic, all the staff rose to the challenge, we even had a flying visit from Buzz Lightyear and the 118 118 men!  I’d specifically like to thank everyone who climbed into the saddle, those who raised sponsorship money and a special thanks to Wattbike for supplying us with the bikes. Thanks also to our suppliers who helped out – Blue Soup, Force24, ASAP Signs, Epiphany & Air Control.”

Dean is already planning the next charity challenge for 4Com staff, so watch this space!
