Monty George, Goalkeeper for the 4Com sponsored Bishop Wordsworth’s football team has enjoyed a fantastic start to his England career, after being picked to represent his country in the 2-0 Victory over Wales in February this year.
Monty has gone on to keep goal for the English School’s International Team in another of their Centenary Shield games, again keeping a clean sheet in a convincing 3-0 win over Scotland in April.
This marks the latest in a long line of success stories for the school’s team which has been backed by 4Com since 2013.
The school, which historically was more synonymous with Rugby, appointed an outside football coach to compliment the in house team after the Department of Education announced an £162 million fund aiming to provide five hours of high-quality sport for all five to sixteen year olds. This funding was then axed after 2013 meaning that the school could no longer afford football coach Doug Small.
Student Taylor Oakley, son of 4Com’s CIO Julian Oakley approached the company to ask them to step in as sponsors. Taylor was invited in to the office to give a pitch to 4Com MD Daron Hutt and having been thoroughly impressed with Taylor’s efforts, Daron agreed that 4Com would become lead sponsors for the school’s football teams, providing them with enough funds to keep their existing level of coaching as well as new kit and equipment.
The following couple of years have seen a constant run of success for the school’s teams with the 1st XI winning the 2013 & 2014 Wiltshire School’s County Trophy and winning the inaugural Wiltshire County League, becoming the first ever double winners. Monty’s call up to the England under 18 squad is another positive story for the school, who are also seeking to do the double-double by winning their final league game next week & winning the Wiltshire School’s Cup Final in 2 weeks’ time.
