Diverse Abilities announced as 2016 charity partner winner

4Com, the Bournemouth based telecommunications provider, are pleased to announce that their 2016 charity partner is Diverse Abilities. After launching the charity search in May, Diverse Abilities and five other charities were selected from the 58 applications received. These six charities were put forward to a final staff vote, and Diverse Abilities won to become the 2016 charity partner, with a target £30,000 to be raised through fundraising.

A Dorset based charity since 1955, it provides support for children and adults living with physical and learning disabilities. They support local families to cope with the daily challenges they face, while ensuring their lives are fun and content.

4Com will be fundraising proceeds for the charity’s Lilypad Appeal, a new children’s respite home, which is hoped to provide care for up to 13 children at a time. The entire Indoor Play Space within this home will be funded through 4Com’s fundraising events. This will give children within the home a place to enjoy cooking, baking and other fun activities, while giving their families the respite support they need.

Dean Cartledge, Director and Head of the 4Com Foundation commented “We are delighted that Diverse Abilities is our 2016 charity partner. As they are a Dorset-based charity, it means that once again, our fundraising efforts will help local families to get the facilities they so need and deserve.”

Helen Mortimer, Head of Fundraising at Diverse Abilities, explained the benefit 4Com’s partnership will have, “Everyone at Diverse Abilities is thrilled to have been chosen as 4Com’s charity partner. We aren’t the most well-known charity, despite supporting hundreds of local children and adults with profound disabilities. Being chosen by the staff at 4Com is an incredible boost and recognition for the charity. Funds raised will be used to create a fantastic indoor play space in our extended and refurbished children’s respite home. This respite home will enable many more local families in desperate need to access respite and for children with complex disabilities to have the facilities they deserve.”

On Sunday 21st August, a team of forty 4Com staff will be taking on the Tough Mudder Challenge in Chippenham, with all the proceeds raised going to Diverse Abilities. Helen stated that “We are incredibly grateful to 4Com and to all their staff undertaking the Tough Mudder to raise funds for us.”
